Is the Empty Nest an Urban Legend?

I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted anything but I’ve been very busy trying to empty my nest (emphasis on “trying”). See, I launched my youngest off to college in August, only to have my oldest return to the fold after he graduated from college. My husband is changing things up, too. All visions I had of uninterrupted ‘me time’ is on hold…for now.

Is this my new reality?

Is the Empty Nest just an urban legend?

I explore that topic in my latest post on CollegiateParent*. Read on and let me know if you agree.

The Myth of the Empty Nest

  1. You are right that no stage of life goes exactly how we plan it. We can never anticipate what is next! I’m much happier when they all come home on breaks and in the summers – and fill the nest back up! Interesting post!

    • I think I was so prepared for everyone to be gone that having people at home is a bit of a shock. But I’m sure once they are really gone – not even home for summers – I’ll be sad and want everyone back. It’s such a strange time, right? You raise your kids to be independent but want them to need you too – just not too much.
